About me

My name is Catharina Hyttsten, and I was born in 1964 in Stockholm, Sweden. I was born a bearaholic, as my mother used to say, but I liked my teddy bears without fur. You can see on my baby photo that my bear still had fur, but not for long.....maybe that is why I collect old, hairless bears! I have been married to Stig for twenty years, and we have two beautiful children: our daughter My, who is eighteen years old and in college, learning all you need to know about horses, and son Simon, who is fifteen and loves trial motorcycles and old steam trains. Our family includes Chablies (Muppe) the palomino pony, Nisse the schnauzer dog, Einar and Melker the dumbo-eared rats, Brumma the guinea pig, and Flisa the Greek turtle. We live on an island in the Swedish archipelago, in a red timber house. In summer, I love to sit in the garden making my bears, listening to the birds and smelling the flowers. My bears are made from mohair, and have glass eyes. I use polyester filling and plastic/mineral granulate. As they are collector bears, they are not suitable for children. Every bear is handmade by me, from start to finish. I also make porcelain dolls, mostly reproductions of antique French "fashion ladies", and needle-felted Gnomis. I hope you enjoy visiting my adoption centre for bears, gnomis and dolls - have a nice time!

Gnomis:
Here are my needle-felted "Gnomis". They are the Swedish "little people", who live under our houses, stables, outhouses and in the forest. They look after the people and animals who live there, but be warned - they can be angry if you don't treat them well - so be nice to them and they'll bring you luck and look after you and your family.
